This site is dedicated to the memory of Sarah Leonard.

Sarah Leonard 16/11/1975 - 25/10/2001 The fund was set up in memory of their daughter Sarah by Mike and Rose Leonard after her death, at the age of 25, from respiratory failure following an acute asthma attack. Sarah was an asthmatic from childhood and her symptoms were controlled, mainly by inhalers, until she reached her teens when her treatment ‘progressed’ to steroids and intravenous drugs. Sarah first became involved with Project for Eczema and Asthma Kids PEAK (but now known as ‘Kick Asthma’) as a teenager; enjoying a holiday and sharing advice, experiences and friendship with other asthmatics. The holiday gave her confidence in her own ability and showed her that asthma need not dominate her life as it had threatened to do. Sarah then returned as a volunteer helper for several Kick Asthma holidays speaking glowingly, thereafter, of the beneficial influences the shared experiences and common cause had given the children attending the holiday. Kick Asthma is part of the Asthma UK Campaign and provides ‘adventure type’ holidays for all children with severe asthma and or eczema. The idea behind the Project is to allow children to enjoy activities, under close medical supervision, which would, otherwise, be outside their physical abilities. With the assistance of Kick Asthma, Rose and Mike Leonard established the ‘Asthma UK: Sarah Leonard Fund Account’; using monies donated (in lieu of flowers) at Sarah’s funeral and other sums raised and donated by family and friends. It is intended that the interest generated by the fund may be used annually to fund places on Kick Asthma holidays for disadvantaged children or to provide equipment for such events. So far we have raised in excess of £20,000, we have set up this page today, June 19th 2012, to help make further fundraising easier.
